What is Stress Management?

Yeah! I can handle everything all the time at the same time - Said no one ever.

Stress? Never Heard of It.

Let’s talk about something we’re all too familiar with: stress. As women juggling multiple roles and responsibilities, stress often won’t take a hint and leave us alone. Stress is thirsty and we gotta put it in check from time to time.

So, how do I view stress management? In simple terms, it’s the art of tackling stress head-on and finding ways to cope with life’s inevitable curveballs without losing our shit. It’s about taking control of our mental and emotional well-being, even when the world around us seems to be spinning out of control.

Setting Boundaries:

Repeat after me: “No” is a complete sentence. As women, we often feel pressured to say yes to everyone and their mama, even when it’s at the expense of our own well-being. Learning to set boundaries and prioritize our needs is essential for maintaining a healthy life balance.

You may feel that if you say no, it’s going to hurt the relationship. But when you prioritize you and speak your truth, it enhances the relationship.

Side note: if you are setting healthy boundaries with someone and they aren’t being respected, it may be time to reassess that relationship.

Self-Care: Putting Yourself First is Not Selfish

Taking time out of our hectic schedules to meet our needs isn’t selfish; it’s necessary for our mental and emotional well-being. We can’t help others if we first don’t make sure we’re taking care of ourselves.

I know that is easier to write about in a blog post than it is in real life.

Whether it’s a toddler hounding you for their 20th snack, or a co-worker (some like glorified toddlers) pressuring you for a response, stress can become overwhelming.

Seeking Support:

We may be strong and independent, but that doesn’t mean we have to go it alone. Talk to a trusted friend, family member, or therapist. Seeking support from others can provide invaluable perspective and validation.

It also helps you get an outside viewpoint where we all sometimes have blind spots. (That never happens to me 🤣)

In conclusion, stress is going to show up like a bad hair day sometimes. All we can control is trying to limit its impact.

Whether it’s going to our favorite place (for me, it’s the ocean), or getting a much-needed massage, we have the tools to manage stress when it arises.
