Your Roots Help Shape Your Life

Race & Cultural Identity Support

Discover your true self.

As a multicultural woman and the child of a first-generation immigrant, I understand that for many of us, identifying our place in the world can be difficult. Many of us hold multiple identities that are ever-shifting and that we’re constantly trying to understand.

We’ve grown up in cultures and histories that we may feel (and have been) disconnected from. We’ve had to dig deep to uncover the basic information about our ancestry and the roots that have shaped us, and even then, accept that some of this history may be lost to us.

We may have tried contouring ourselves, stifling our inner voices, and playing the desired roles just to fit in. We may have adapted, re-created, and sometimes abandoned parts of ourselves to meet the status quo. This can leave us feeling alone, confused, frustrated, and even like a fraud.

We wonder if there will ever be a time when we genuinely fit in and can be at peace with who we are. It’s hard to talk about to others and can leave us feeling disconnected in relationships. We may feel like there is a part of us others can never truly understand, because it’s hard to understand ourselves. We feel worried about how to support our kids with this when it’s hard for us to understand.

We may question if we will ever feel like enough, ever be enough… We may feel this constant disconnection inside which makes it hard to trust ourselves, feel confident, and even take that next step toward our goals.

Understanding the impacts of our racial and cultural experiences can feel like a challenging journey, but not one that you have to travel alone.

What race and cultural identity isn't:

Exploring race and cultural experiences is not dividing or categorizing people’s experiences, excluding, or judging.

What race and cultural identity support is...

Exploring racial and cultural experiences is creating a safe and compassionate space where you can explore all your different identities and how your experiences have shaped you. It’s about bridging understanding, finding connections, and exploring flexibility/adaptability. It’s about braving vulnerability, and discovering (and sometimes challenging) our own perceptions to further reconnect with our authentic values and true self.

Things that race and cultural identity support can help with:

Let me help…

It’s time to find someone that you can really talk to and trust to step in and give you the much-needed support that you deserve. Cultural support therapy can help you to better understand how your culture and identities influence your daily life. It can feel like taking that first deep breath toward your future freedom.

By diving into it together and exploring your own unique experience, you too can have a better understanding of how these experiences have shaped you. You can also become aware of how they are still impacting you now. You can finally have the wisdom and confidence to reconnect with those authentic parts of yourself that may have been lost along the way.

Women who’ve gotten cultural identity support from me will say they leave therapy feeling more aware and compassionate toward themselves. They can acknowledge and sometimes mourn the parts of themselves and their history that may have been left behind. They will say they feel more supported in their feelings and understand how these experiences impact the ways that they show up in the world. How their experiences have shaped their relationships, work, and how they treat themselves. They feel less isolated and disconnected. They can identify and communicate their experiences to their loved ones; and support their own kids/family to do the same. Showing up authentically feels easier because they feel more trusting, confident, and attuned to their own needs. They can let go of the old roles they felt they had to play and finally step into their whole authentic selves. They can celebrate who they are today and feel empowered over their next steps. They feel more balanced, peaceful, and calmer in their everyday lives.

Your past experiences don’t have to control your life. It’s possible to re-discover the authentic you and feel more confident knowing that you are enough.

If this is you, you are my people. Let’s dive in.
